Further information about EUROCAMP

LET US INTRODUCE OURSELVES. The main organizers have been working with children since their student years. In the nineties, according to new legislation, the Association of Entrepreneurs was founded for annual summer camps in Stádlec. In 1999 the Czech law for traveling changed and that’s why the association was transformed to a regular travel agency. SYKA AGENCY a.s., travel agency is insured by ČPP, a.s., Vienna Insurance Group. Perhaps you have heard or read about our successful camps. We have organized the camp SUMMER TIME for the past 16 years already. It’s a camp with an English focus; once-a-day lessons with Czech teachers (see www.detskytabor.cz). A few years later, actually eight years ago, we set up a new camp, ENGLISH 4 YOU (see www.englishcamp.cz), with intensive English lessons with native English speaking teachers. And now for the fifth year EUROCAMP introduces a new idea: this camp has got a bit of both SUMMER TIME and ENGLISH 4 YOU. In EUROCAMP children are in constant contact with native English speaking adults and children. This is also reflected in their participation in the exciting camp play. The main people behind EUROCAMP are real specialists:

Pavel Jahelka is an experienced camp leader who has shown a lot of ability and love to children in the past few years. Since 2004 he has occupied various positions at SUMMER TIME CAMPS. In past seasons he has proven his abilities as the main leader for the English courses ENGLISH 4 YOU and he was also helping with the realization of camps SUMMER TIME and EUROCAMP. In SYKA AGENCY a.s. he is now standing as the coordinator of programs being organized by this travel agency. At the same time he is taking care of the whole year’s administration, propagation, and other fields connected with SUMMER TIME CAMPS. Pavel’s strength is his friendly character and laughable approach to the kids that makes him a camp favorite.

Ing. Josef Syka is the founder of the camps SUMMER TIME, ENGLISH 4 YOU and EUROCAMP (see www.syka.cz). He is the owner of both camps where events take place. Till 2005 he was also the main leader for ENGLISH 4 YOU. He has focused on constantly improving and offering new ideas, as well as on the camps’ promotion. He is always trying to come up with something new, something progressive. Nowadays he more focused on programs that unify children from different countries. Thanks to the growing offers of different language camps and courses, the central aim of his work has developed - to help children to be prepared for a united Europe through fun and play. At present, he is the responsible representative and consultant of SYKA AGENCY a.s., travel agency.

Mgr. Veronika Švadlenková is a teacher of English and Geography at a secondary school in Prague. She also works as an english lecturer at a language school called Amadeus. Besides she organises student exchanges and prepares international events which take place in English and are organised by the European Youth Parliament. She is constantly striving to improve her knowledge of English and she studied in Great Britain for several months. In the last seven years Veronika has devoted her time to working with children, either as an au-pair, a group leader on trips abroad, a group leader on ENGLISH 4 YOU camp or as the deputy of the main leader at SUMMER TIME. Her organisational skills, promptness and ability to solve unexpected situations are a big advantage for our camps and that is why Veronika is the main representative of EUROCAMP this year.

David James Gresty is from Blackpool in the North West of England. He has been in the Czech Republic since April 2006. He taught in language schools in Prague before moving to Litomerice in September 2007. Since then he has been teaching English and English with mathematics and Art to grades 1-5 at a primary school in the town. Before teaching, while studying for a computer science degree at the University of Central Lancashire David was a manager for McDonalds Restaurants UK. Because of David’s teaching credentials and managerial background he is a great asset to our camps as a coordinator of the native English speakers and he is responsible for the high quality of their performance. David has been teaching on our camps every year since summer 2006 and his interests are travel, sports and learning Czech language.

Radovan Hajný is a teacher in a music school. His specialty is playing the flute. He has been working with us since 1996 and has become an invaluable asset to our team. His main job is taking care of both camp sites, but he also helps to recruit and find the best technical staff. During the summer he is responsible for leading the back-office staff, stocking the kitchen and the organization of the bus transport for children. He has many functions so there he is the steward of the camp who will not miss any important details around him. He is cheerful, nice and also cautious. He is able to solve any kind of problem in his own way. If we don’t hear his flute playing during the campfire at least once, we all will for sure miss a part of a real camp atmosphere.

After introducing ourselves, we would like to INTRODUCE OUR PLACE AND ITS SURROUNDINGS. The camp covers two big meadows in the middle of a private forest. There is good access to the river, which runs nearby through our beautiful valley. You won’t find a better place to play football or volleyball than on our sport grounds. In case of bad weather conditions we have got two big clubrooms and even in our big dining room we can be in a cozy mood near the fireplace. And naturally we are equipped with new, modern facilities. Each cottage contains four beds, so it fits perfectly four good friends. Finally, it will be reassuring to know that we have been using this peaceful and beautiful place already for sixteen years, which is why we know the best way to take advantage of it.

PROFESSIONAL AND SKILLED APPROACH. Thanks to sixteen years experiences with organizing summer camps we know exactly what is the best for children. We have a competent approach and every year we look for ways of improving and developing new skills and evaluating them. Although we take care of children in the best way possible, we are insured and of course we properly pick and choose all staff.

STAFF. The English speaking leaders come from England, the USA, Australia or Canada. They have attended International TEFL Certificate Training Programs that prepares native speakers for teaching children and adult students. They received their titles mostly through special TEFL programs: particularly through ITC agency in the Czech Republic (see www.itc-training.com) which is part of The Association of Teachers of English of the Czech Republic and it is a member of The International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) or TEFL Worldwide Prague agency (see www.teflworldwideprague.com) which is a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic. The TEFL program just as important to us is also Oxford TEFL (see www.oxfordtefl.cz). The Czech leaders also go through proper training. The kitchen staffs have been chosen in the best confidence. Children who may be used to the low quality of school dining rooms will be nicely surprised with our range of meals. And the healthcare provider is also chosen carefully, either from a hospital (as a doctor or a nurse) or from university after third year of studying medicine (a medical student).

SAFETY. The care of all participants in our camp takes precedence. There are two leaders (one English and one Czech) who look after the children at all times. While swimming or boating (lifejackets are always used in the boats) another adult accompanies them. We are very strict in these cases. The camp’s program may sometimes be a bit rough, which is why we never forget proper rest periods. We don’t want the children to get tired or exhausted. We adjust the games and activities to the weather conditions, particularly during the hot, summer days. Beverages are always available in the dining room, which means the children will be properly hydrated for the whole day and night. Recently, there has been a worldwide increase in the way of negative social behavior (vexation or unmotivated violence), and it is important for us to be vigilant that it does not occur in any way in our camp. So far, thank God, we have had no experience with any behavior of this manner, but we are well prepared to keep it from occurring. In case of any serious behavior offence, we reserve the right to urgently act. At the end of this part about safety you should know about the floods in Czech Republic in 2002. Be assured that our camp is a safe place; this floodwater did not cause any damage to the camp’s facilities. This information can easily be verified.
